Our third one!
We're very happy with this retractable leash. Our dog is 50 lbs and has hit the end of the retractable with considerable momentum on several occasions(more on that later). He's always been fine though since we always put his nice Ruffwear harness on him.
This was the first retractable I've ever used and it took a few walks to get used to but retractables are truly an awesome invention. It did slip out of my hand on one of the first few walks but I think that was more of me getting used to it when our dog hit the end of the leash than the products fault. To be safe, I wrapped some tennis racket grip tape around the handle and it added that extra grip we were looking for.
That's right- we're on our third one in two years! Reason being that while this leash has never caused any problems or failed on us, we feel that after so many times of hitting the end of the leash so hard (we may or may not partake in a little varmint hunting on the bike every now and then ;)...
I have two of these now
I bought one of these a couple years ago to replace a crappy no name one that wasn't retracting very well anymore and like it so much I bought another this year for my other dog. These are holding up really well. I walk my dogs twice a day rain, snow, or shine and half the time when the leash is wet I forget to leave it unrolled to dry and the retraction mechanisms are as strong as the day I bought them. I've dropped it many times as well and still no problems. The one minor issue I do have with them is it is tight to get all four fingers through the grip when I'm wearing thick gloves.
Good Length, Well Built, but does not Close Completely
We have a Goldendoodle pup and this was his first leash. It has worked pretty well, but I do not like the fact that the cord does not retract completely. It leaves about 2+ feet of length which may not seem like an issue unless you are trying to train your dog to keep close.
Have since upgraded to the large breed model with the belt and it is much better. If you are on the fence between the two get the larger. Easier on your hands and much more sturdy.
