Saved My Wife
We have a very energetic dog. Walking her daily was just not enough. My wife decided to bike with her on a lease and chest harness (I strongly recommend a chest harness as opposed to an around-the-neck collar). After 2 endo's (this is when you exit your bike over the handle bars unexpectedly) and several bruised bones and ego, she said that was enough.
We did a lot of research and chose the dog walky. What a great purchase. My wife can now safely bike the dog. She can keep 2 hands on the brakes and not on the dogs lease. The dog cannot go in front of the bike which caused one of her endos. Most importantly, when the dog runs towards something unexpectedly, the tug is on the bike seat and back tire, not the front. The result of this is a slight tug, easily adjusted to without any great concern over crashing the bike.
One of the reasons we purchased this unit is because we can take the Dog Walky off the bike and use it as a walking lease. Great for trips to places...
Great - Safe device
Well constructed. Easily detatchable and (and convenient)leash. Have not seen this in any other product. Just enough give to all dog some room and remain safe distance from the wheels and cars. Great way to give a dog more exercise, than just a walk, while on a leash. Consider walking the bicycle the first couple times to get the dog used to the feeling. Unsure how this would work out for long distances, but for our daily walk, it's going to work out nicely. Our dog is a 50 lb mix of lab/golden and ? - 11 months old and loves to run.
Best for very small dogs
This product is designed to clamp to your bike's seat post, but my 40 lb dog is able to pull hard enough to, repeatedly, both (a) turn the clamp around the seat post, and (b) turn the seat post within its housing. I've applied as much torque as I'm able to tighten everything down, but the product just isn't stable enough to consistently stand up to my fairly small dog.
